The Satanic Panic and the Religious Battle for the Imagination is a documentary released earlier in 2022 focusing on the bizarre happenings in the early to mid- 1980's when Dungeons and Dragons, the tabletop role-playing game, found itself on the defense from factions of religion and the media. Derek White, aka The Geekpreacher, frequent guest on Pint O' Comics, is a large part of this documentary. He brings his skillful knowledge to the program as we wind our way through a very strange time in gaming and history.

Jim Ottaviani's gt-labs publications have been of interest to me since they first became known to me, as unusual graphic novels focusing on science and scientists. Since First Second Books started publishing his work, he's only become much more well received, complete with a best-seller. His newest graphic novel, with artist Jerel Dye, is due out this week. It's called EINSTEIN and this show focuses on it in a jammed full hour of science, comic books, and fun.

POSTCARDS FROM CONGO is the latest book from the man AKA Junk Comix, Edmund Trueman. It's a brief history of the African nation of Congo, and the tumult the people in the region have had to survive since European intrusion. Lushly, colorfully illustrated, it's a great read for people with no knowledge of what's been going on there for the past 200 years, and even a great refresher for folks that do know. It contains a fully fleshed out bibliography for readers interested in doing deeper investigation, with notations from Edmund. Due out in November in North America from Arsenal Pulp Press, I think listeners will enjoy this discussion.

Neal Adams revolutionized the comic art form in the late 60's and early 70's, breaking open set layout standards and bringing a fresh look to comic books, becoming a force of nature hard to match. George Perez did things with comic book crowds few other artists have ever been able to duplicate, and his work was in demand right up to the day he retired.
